Ms Brodie Cambourne, the managing director of Kidfit Seminars began working with children who were being left behind in traditional sports and activities in 1995. This passion lead to Brodie opening one of the first children's gyms in Australia and over an 6 year period the original Kidfit Centre engaged in the lives of over 1000 children and their parents.
The Kidfit Gym 1995- 2001
The original Kidfit gym was a centre focussed on LOW ANXIETY learning and enabled both children and parents to feel safe with their attempts at exercise and literacy development.
Brodie also saw the need to develop consistent coaching strategies and staff to assist with maintaining LOW ANXIETY learning environments.
The Development of the FITERACY Coaching Framework
Brodie has now developed the FITERACY Program utilising the same theories of learning that have been applied to literacy.
She believes the more people that share this vision of assisting children to learn physical activity concepts naturally through parent/ carer demonstration, the more children will engage in purposeful and meaningful learning and that all children, of all cultures, location, age and ability have a right to this experience.
The Development of the Kidfit Coaching Courses
The Kidfit Coaching Courses were developed to assist coaches with both risk management knowledge and customer care and the maintenance of both physically and emotionally safe learning environments for children and their parents/ carers.
Brodie attributes much of her knowledge and passion for working with children to her parents and her father's research in the development of language and literacy.
Professor Brian Cambourne is a leading academic in the educational field and together Brodie hopes to continue her father's research into literacy and apply this to fitness and learning healthy lifestyle concepts.
